More than four years ago, Patricia's life was turned upside down when her house caught fire. Underinsured and facing a devastating loss, she hired a contractor who, instead of helping, took her money, gutted her home, and disappeared. With her daughter and five grandchildren by her side, Patricia faced a series of displacements: first living in an apartment until it flooded, then relying on her sister until she could no longer offer support, and finally finding refuge in a shelter. In February 2024, the city connected her with HOME, Inc., just as her house was added to the nuisance list and was slated for demolition.
Determined to change her fate, HOME, Inc. tirelessly partnered with multiple organizations to secure funding for her home’s rehabilitation. Through hard work and collaboration, HOME, Inc. restored Patricia's home. Fast forward to July 2024, and against all odds, Patricia and her family joyfully returned to a transformed house—a once fire damaged 3-bedroom home, now revitalized into a spacious 5-bedroom home for them to thrive and grow.
As they work to get back to their lives, we are coming together to
help provide them with a safe and secure yard by building a fence around
their home. With five young kids in the family, it's essential to
create a designated space where they can play and grow.
What to Expect:
Join us for a day of hard work, teamwork, and compassion as we
construct and paint a fence that will not only protect their property,
but also provide a sense of safety for the children. No prior
construction experience is needed.
What to Bring:
- Please wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes
- Work gloves
- A reuseable water bottle full of water
- An open heart and willingness to help!

- All necessary supplies, tools, and PPE
- A HOME, Inc. Day of Service Volunteer T-shirt! (Register before August 23rd to get your size, otherwise you will receive whatever is available.)
- A warm sense of community and the chance to positively impact someone's life.

After an incredible two days of volunteering, you're invited to come unwind, celebrate our hard work, and get to know each other better! We'll enjoy some comradery, and to keep the fun going, we’ll have a lively game of Musical Bingo with some exciting prizes up for grabs!
