Volunteers will utilize UnityPoint Health – Des Moines' mission and core values to anticipate and proactively promote a positive and friendly patient experience by providing information about the Comfort Cart Menu options, and ensuring the patient receives the requested items.
Volunteers will be responsible for completing the following tasks on North 3 and North 4 located at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center (downtown hospital campus):
- Check in with Unit Secretary to receive any necessary patient updates or requests
- Greet all patients and visitors with a smile and eagerness to help. You may be the first non-medical person they have seen that day!
- Introduce patients and guests to comfort cart menu and offer items from comfort cart
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information
- Ensure there is no discussion of the patients’ illness or condition. Direct any questions they may have to medical staff
- Maintain comfort cart supplies and alert staff of need for additional supplies or requests from patients
- Complete daily log of comfort cart items distributed. Feel free to leave notes regarding the patients likes and dislikes for the incoming volunteer
