Calling all movers!
Volunteers are needed to help a family move into one of our Home Connection houses on Sunday, October 19th. This will include helping move the family out of their current location, load the Families Forward truck, and then unload the family's belongings at their new home.
The Families Forward Home Connection program provides supportive housing for families with children experiencing homelessness. The Home Connection’s goal is to move families from homelessness to permanent housing with an emphasis on financial independence.
How you would be helping out:
- Safely moving furniture and other large items out of a home into moving vehicles and then into the family's new housing.
- Bringing boxes, bags, and other belongings to the moving truck and then unloading.
- Vacuuming, sanitizing, and performing other clean-up duties to help the family "move out" of their current home.
Requirements: Volunteers should be 16 years of age or older to volunteer and be able to lift 40 pounds.
Questions: Contact Missy Reams at missy@familiesforward.org or by phone at 515-989-8404 or by text at 515-346-8895.
About volunteering: A volunteer orientation is provided when you first arrive to help, including an overview about poverty in the Des Moines metro. We provide a unique cultural and economically diverse volunteer experience.
