September 6, 2019 - A Roadmap to Success: How to Plan Effective Lessons
Whether you’re tutoring one-on-one or teaching a large class, lesson planning is a critical part of ensuring learner success. During this workshop, you’ll learn how to design lessons so that both the teacher and learners experience success. Topics include: how to write effective objectives to guide your planning, tried and true planning methods and lesson plan formats, and how to build in comprehension checks throughout the lesson. New and experienced teachers alike are welcome.
Dinner will not be provided, only light snacks, so plan accordingly. WDMCS Learning Resource Center is an environmentally-conscious campus, and you are encouraged to bring your own refillable water bottle.
September 7, 2019 - Basics for Teaching Adult ESL Learners
This training prepares volunteers to work with adult students who are learning English, and helps volunteers understand the influence of culture and immigration on learning. It also prepares volunteer instructors to lead adult English language learners in citizenship or job skills. New volunteers, those with limited ESL volunteer experience, and those with applicable skills are welcome. This session, especially created for volunteers in community-based organizations, does not teach a specific curriculum, but will provide curriculum resources, activity ideas and sample lesson plans.
Breakfast and a light snack lunch will be provided. WDMCS Learning Resource Center is an environmentally-conscious campus, and you are encouraged to bring your own refillable water bottle.
