Who We Are

The National Balloon Museum chronicles more than 200 years of ballooning history from man's first flight in a hot air balloon in 1783 to the present. The museum includes ballooning library, a children's learning center, a theater for showing videos and slide shows about ballooning, a digital weather station and a gift shop. It is also home of the U. S. Ballooning Hall of Fame and the national offices of the Balloon Federation of America and the offices of the National Balloon Classic which hosts a none day ballooning event in Indianola each summer.

What We Do

The National Balloon Museum, Inc. through its exhibitions and collections dedicates itself to providing the public with a comprehensive understanding of ballooning from its inception in 1783 to the present. It is a non-profit institution guided by a board of directors which is empowered to administer its programs through funding from memberships and bequests as well as private and public sources. It is the responsibility of the Museum to promote, teach and provide an accurate knowledge of ballooning by collecting and preserving artifacts, documents and images representative of the history of ballooning.
