Who We Are
Hope Ministries has been serving those who are homeless in Des Moines and central Iowa since 1915. We are a Christ-centered, faith-based ministry that provides programs and services for homeless and hungry men, women and children. We are one of the largest non-denominational collaborative efforts in Iowa focused on homelessness and hunger issues. We reach out to the unsheltered and displaced by offering food, clothing, shelter and support through emergency, short-term and long-term life-recovery services to men, women and children. Our staff, board and volunteers involve many Christian denominations, and we have many strong church ministry partners. In addition, more than 3,000 volunteers donate valuable time and expertise each year as volunteers. We offer group and individual volunteer opportunities on a one-time or ongoing basis. For individuals, we offer a high-impact volunteer program called the M25 Volunteer Service Network. M25 Volunteers complete an orientation and serve in a number of capacities, such as regular volunteering at one of our ministry centers or serving as a church/community ambassador. The name M25 Network comes from Matthew 25: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me...Whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters, you did for me." ~ Matthew 25: 35-40
