Polk County Heritage Gallery

Who We Are

A gallery for art lovers to experience the best of Iowa’s creative community.

The Polk County Heritage Gallery has served the Greater Des Moines area for nearly 50 years, offering free access to art and culture.

Each year, the Gallery presents seven to eight exhibitions that highlight the work of diverse and dynamic artists.

It’s located in a 1908 Beaux Arts–style former post office, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975.

What We Do

The Gallery is 100% sustainable and fueled by hundreds of volunteer hours every year.

Our supporters work to keep our doors open, manage exhibitions, managing submissions and hanging shows.

Through out the year, the Galley also host multiple receptions and events throughout the year that strengthens and fosters art and culture in Central Iowa.

At the Polk County Heritage Gallery, our aim is to provide a place where artists and community members can meet, share their work, and engage with local culture.
