Who We Are

Tax-Aide is a nationwide program offered each tax filing season through the AARP Foundation. Tax-Aide volunteers receive annual training to become IRS-certified tax counselors.

What We Do

Tax-Aide volunteers are needed in Greater Des Moines to provide free income tax preparation and filing for low- to moderate-income residents. T As a volunteer, you will work two to three half-day shifts per week to prepare and file federal and state income taxes for clients. Tax-Aide operates filing sites from February to mid-April in Des Moines at the Northwest Community Center, Fellowship Hall and South Side Community Center, and at the Urbandale Library. Tax counselors must have good computer skills, attention to detail, and an interest in providing an important service to the community. You’ll be supported by knowledgeable, experienced volunteers. Prior tax preparation experience is not required, and you do not need to be an AARP member. In addition to tax counselors, Tax-Aide also has volunteer opportunities for client facilitators and schedulers.
