8th & College Connections

Our mission is to promote and generate projects that bring together immigrants and other members of the near north side community, a very diverse neighborhood in every way. Our English classes, taught by volunteers, have been ongoing since 2001 and normally serve over 100 students in four or five levels. The community garden project began in 2019, and this year expanded to workshop offerings in garden topics and cooking techniques.

English classes in four or five levels are free to immigrants, with free child care during class hours. Our focus is on creating community and teaching skills needed for participation in this community. Our garden/cooking project gives students a chance to work together with neighbors and supporters and practice English during the summer.
