Join us and help serve dinner to our Braving Grief Support Group participants at Amanda the Panda. Volunteers will have an opportunity to do light meal preparation and setup, help serve the meal, and clean up after the meal.

Our groups take place on Monday evenings from 6pm-7:30pm and Kitchen Helpers are helping us out from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

Amanda the Panda is looking for volunteers to help maintain our outdoor space. 

Help with mowing the lawn, weeding, trimming hedges, and other yard task that you are able to complete. Tools would be provided to complete the task.

Provide as much or as little time as you would. You can provide 1-2 hours a week, 1-2 hours every other week, 1-2 hours a month, or even provide this service once.

Help represent EveryStep in the community by being our mascot, Amanda, at schools and other functions!

Volunteer will dress up in our Amanda the Panda costume and provide support for attendees at events. The volunteer should be able to respond appropriately at events (being quiet when necessary, or excited and waving at parades), represent the personality of Amanda, and the demeanor of the organization in public.

Volunteers should be friendly, comfortable around children and grieving families, and comfortable working indoors or outdoors in a costume covering head to feet.

Training on the costume is provided. Volunteer will need to pass a background check as well.

Opportunity: have an impact on grieving youth in our state. Make a difference by providing a safe space for students experiencing grief within rural communities where they can connect with peers, share their story, and learn healthy ways to cope. Facilitators help to guide the discussion and lead activities each week. Time Commitment: Daytime hours - typically a 30-45 group session 1 time a week for 6 weeks (potential for multiple groups as well). Location: Rural schools within an hour of the Des Moines area. Training: specialized training is provided to address loss stemming from death, divorce, abandonment, deportation, and incarceration. Mileage reimbursement or access to our company van is available.

At EveryStep, volunteers play an important role in the organization's ability to live out its mission. Simply put, without our dedicated volunteers, EveryStep would not be able to provide care and support to thousands of patients, clients, families, and our own staff every year. EveryStep Hospice and our volunteers help those living with a serious illness make the best out of every day. 

Hospice volunteer opportunities include:

Provide companionship to patients by reading, playing cards, or offering a comforting presence. Complete homemaking tasks by assisting patients and their families with chores and outdoor work. Transport patients to doctors’ appointments, delivering essentials, or running errands. Veteran-to-Veteran volunteers are paired with patients who have also served our country. These specialized volunteers provide companionship while talking, reading and sitting with patients. EveryStep is recognized as a Level Four Partner through We Honor Veterans. Music volunteers sing, play musical instruments, or play CDs for patients' musical enjoyment. Life Review volunteers are specially trained individuals who interview patients about their lives. The conversations are recorded and given to patients and their families as a gift for a long-lasting memories. Story Book volunteers are specially trained individuals who record the patient reading a story that can then be shared for generations to come. The patient and family are given the CD and the book as a memento. Community Outreach volunteers help spread the word about EveryStep's mission at community events and speaking engagements. 11th Hour volunteers are specially trained individuals who can provide a quiet presence during the final hours of life while providing companionship and support for family members.
