Help create a hunger free Iowa by sorting and packing donated food and produce items in preparation for their distribution to our partner agencies and the people they serve.

Each week the Food Bank of Iowa receives food and produce donations that need to be prepared before being distributed to our partner agencies.  Volunteers can help get the food and produce items to our agencies in a timely manner by participating in this process.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Check condition of donated items, including dates (if applicable), to ensure safety of consumption.
  • Bag/box produce items into smaller quantities 
  • Sort and box checked items into the appropriate categories (i.e. fruits, vegetables, soups, meals, desserts, etc.)
  • Break down cardboard for recycling and dispose of trash.

 Please note closed-toe shoes are required in the warehouse.  Also, please dress comfortably and in layers.  The temperature in the warehouse can vary.

Qualifications:

  • Able to stand, move, bend, and lift in warehouse environment.
  • Able to read printed dates on packaging.
  • Able to safely use box cutter, packing tape dispenser, and other packing tools as needed.
