The Iowa International Center has been invited to be part of the Des Moines Arts Festival at Western Gateway Park.
We will be tabling this year and running an art-activity based on recognizing cultural diversity and appreciating one’s own identity, through self-portraiture. At the event, volunteers will be:
- Explaining the project and welcoming guests to participate in creating self-portraiture through various media (sharpies, paint, stickers, crayons, and textiles)
- Giving participants prompts to help reflection on identity and family history that they can integrate into their self-portrait (prompt card will be available)
- Creating self-portraiture or helping others with their portraits
- Distributing information on Iowa International Center
- Explaining how Iowa International Center engages with issues of multiculturalism (training provided day of event)
