Tech Camp is an immersive annual summer camp experience for central Iowa students in grades 8 through 12. Each year about 100 students are invited to attend inspirational keynote sessions, technology sessions and other activities to explore and engage with technology. Tech Camp is led by local technology professionals who give their time and talent to serve as volunteer facilitators and mentors. Students not only learn about technology, but they also get to personally interact with professionals and discuss education, careers, jobs, skills and the like.
Volunteer mentors are welcome to sign up for one or more sessions, either full or half days. The primary role of the mentor is to be present and encouraging to the students as they progress through the facilitator's content. Volunteers don't need to be an expert on the session topic, just willing to help the students. Technologies and topics typically presented include, but are not limited to, Agile, Arduino, cloud computing, cybersecurity, engineering, game development, HTML/CSS/JS, machine learning, Python and robotics.
