Adult Literacy Center at DMACC

The Adult Literacy Center at DMACC (formerly at Drake) provides literacy instruction to adults who need to improve their reading, writing, speaking and spelling skills. On-line learning is available as well as one-to-one tutoring, when an appropriate volunteer is available.
We serve adults in the community and new Iowans who can speak English but need to learn to read and write English. They enroll because they want to complete their high school education, enroll in college, read to their children, find a job or a better job, or to be more independent.
Volunteer tutors provide one-to-one tutoring for 1 1/2 hours, once a week.
Potential tutors receive 2 hours of in-class training and additional support as needed. Adult learners also access computer-based instruction.
Volunteers meet with their student on the DMACC Urban Campus, at area libraries or other convenient public locations.
We have a growing need for volunteer literacy coaches. Volunteer today!
